3. Content Audit and Design for Navigation Refresh
Part of the resdesign process also need to repond to reorganizing information so that people find what they’re looking for. I created a card sort session with 6 participants uncovering how the target audience’s domain knowledge is structured, and it serves to create an information architecture that matches users’ expectations.

4. Content ReviewAvoid visual clutter: redundant links, irrelevant images, and meaningless typography flourishes slow users down. (Note that meaningful links, images, and typography are valuable design elements; it is only when overused that these backfire and actually impair usability.)

Thinking beyond library web redesign
Design is a never ending process. Along the way, I came across lots of frustrating moments when I couldn’t figure out how to take my design to the context, needs, visual, yet after trial and error I pushed myself and finally found a better solution. Even launch is only a start, we were continuing to learn, iterate and improve upon it.

UX Design / Product / Interaction Design
Podcast DesignThoughts started as a personal project completed during the winter 2019 semester. I had developed podcast listening habits together with a group of friends, enjoying the concept for curation, audio and reading experience. The design and research set out further to explore the question: How might we create audio listening experience that allow user to connect more deeply with the content itself?

I look for threads in the content, and gradually I find a lot of interesting people, but.... There are too many of them.”
As I start to understand how listener usually engage with podcast, I interviewed five podcast listeners, each at different points in their habit. Some had been tuning in for years, while others were relatively new to the podcast. Despite their diverse listening timelines, they shared intriguing similarities in how they connected with podcasts, yet each brought a unique perspective to their relationship with audio content.

Through these dialogues, I uncovered some of the key insights that transcended their varied podcast listening experiences and visions, listeners enjoy:
The Bond with the Host: Listeners cherished a “friendship-like” connection they felt with podcast hosts, looking forward to this virtual companionship on a weekly basis. The Joy of Discovery: They reveled in uncovering new content and absorbing fresh ideas, indicating a thirst for continuous learning and exploration.
Opportunity for Design
Enhanced Contextual Understanding: Listeners expressed a wish for more background or contextual information accompanying episodes, to enrich their understanding and engagement.Easier Content Review: The ability to revisit and review previously enjoyed content was another area they hoped to see improved, highlighting the importance of reflection and recall in their listening experience.Tailored Recommendations: A desire for personalized suggestions on shows and episodes was evident, reflecting a need for a more curated listening journey.Simplified Unsubscription: The process of unsubscribing from podcasts felt cumbersome, suggesting a need for a more streamlined approach.
Brainstorm on Key functionsIt was important and interesting to generate ideas and learn about all the similar market products. This process got me thinking about why products are designed the way they are, in terms of some of the features themselves and the mechanics of how they work. An example, Apple podcast keyword search mechanism looks at metadata (name, channel name, episode title), popularity, user behavior (listening engagement, followers, completion rate), etc. Spotify, for their part, provides their keyword search results from individual listening history, current popularity and alltime popularity.I know there's a lot more that's not apparent from their visual appearance, but I'm also interested in following the product and its organization of structure and functionality to better understand the actual functional needs they address and the business interests they may be juggling at the same time.

User Flow and System Diagram

1. General Login Reference: Common Login Pattern

2. User search for podcast using keywords and subscribe
I looked into some helpful practice from application process keyword search. And things usually gets complicated and we have senarios for search results prioritization such as ads and organic search rankings have different objectives and algorithms. Essentially, the input need go through indexing, storeaging, parameter matching etc.

3. User curate podcast related content while listening to them
Vision
Useful: Users should be able to enjoy listening to podcast.
Connection: Users are able to connect to the content on a personal scale
Transparent: Users have better knowledge to the listening content their subscriptions choices and pattern

User Feedback1. Improve the audio content bookmark
To learn more about how other products handled similar issues, I take some time analyzed Apple, Google, Podcast, Audible. Here are what I found:
2. Organize Over all User FlowsAfter analyzing and orginazing all the interivew and competitive analysis information, the detailed user stories were formulated. The following are the main requirements of the app in the user stories:
3. Visual Brand DesignBased on the user stories, I first made the flowchart and then the wireframes to communicate the flow of the app. The client was involved in this stage several times to reach an agreement on the key features.

Trans Media Design Feeling uncertain in the face of change is something many of us can relate to, and you and I have probably had a moment where we grew in fear and confusion. When we find ourselves in an uncertainties, we can both skeptical of our choices and seeking a better future. For those who are going through transitions is a constant process of acceptence and gain inner peace.
My RoleSurvey / Interview Design, Literature Review, Workshop Planning, UI/UX Design

BackgroundResearch Questions1. What issues prevent participants from going through the process set up case modeling information and configuring KPI?2. What sources of information do participants currently look for to complete?3. How efficiently are participants able to successfully find the information they need to complete case modeling and configuring KPI?

	Research Process
1. Set up key tasks in exisiting user flow
I talked to desinger and researcher from our project and the design team to understand the existing challenge of the user interaction flow from their perspectives. Then I conducted usability testing with our internal users to learn more about what problems they had when using the IDE tool.
2. Constructing the interview and testing protocolTo learn how people understood the existing flow, I organized the interview session within the testing. I invited them to share the existing practice on factory plan simulation, and then prioritize what information mattered to them.

Background

1. Client NeedsCareer Developement Office(CDO) hopes to understand the student’s perceptions towards the using iTrack web platfrom, identify different user feedback and collect suggestion to help inform decision making to improve iTrack overall user experience.

2. iTrack Key FunctionsJob Search, Event Registration, Career Advising
3. Challenges
CDO has not yet been able to conduct any kind of user testing on the platform. As such, the service likely contains certain usability challenges which a comparative analysis will help contextualize. iTrack is Symplicity-powered career development software, therefore CDO dosen’t have development side authority, therefore it’s helpful for them to collect and surface the types of change and issues they need most of their attention on.

Research ScopeThe research used a combination of different research approaches to help our client gain insights into the student user awarenesses and needs for iTrack functionality, web information structure and accessibility, and benchmarking among different competitor products at the time in higher education.
1. Competitive Analysis
2. User Interview
3. User Perception Survey4. User Interface Audit

Research Process
Our process involves a few important runs of research:
1. Ask: ask our client questions and define the problem.
2. Prepare: collect data by collecting and storing the information
3. Build: create research plans to build ways to collect data
4. Analyze: data exploration, visualization, and analysis
5. Share: communicating and interpreting results

Example Usability Issues
Issue 1: Creating job alerts is often difficult for users, with one participant even giving up on the taskWhy is a problem: For this task, the participant is asked to create a job alert for the roles that he or she is interested in. The job alert link is not very discoverable, so the participant missed it and could not complete the task even after several attempts. All participants struggled to identify how to create a job alert. Lack of visibility for the necessary buttons caused problems for all three of these participants.

What to consider : Option 1: Isolate the ‘create job alert’ button from the group, and make it a stand-alone button, which is more discoverable by the userOption 2: Adding a “create job alert” button at the top of the pop-up window when users have not created any previous job alerts.

Issue 2: Left-hand side menu is too lengthy and confusing for users to navigate. Why is a problem: Participant missed the ‘job alert’ when they first landed on the job search page, and eventually could not complete the task.
For this task, the participant is asked to create a job alert for the roles that he or she is interested in. The left navigation menu on the system interface provides users with too many options. Participants reaction suggested that too many options make users lose direction with their options. And the long list of options frustrates them with each search for the correct path.

What to consider : Option 1: The criticality of various features on the left-hand navigation menu should be identified and ranked. Option 2: Redesigned the left-hand side menu.

Issue 3: Improve WayfindingWhy is a problem: There is no obvious way to return to the previous page after selecting individual contact information within the Employer Contact Directory. For this task, the participant is asked to find the contact information for an employee at a given company in iTrack. After clicking on a specific employee’s contact information, the user finds it difficult to go back to the list of contacts, and have to do so through the browser’s back button.

What to consider : Option 1: Create an obvious back button, allow the user to return or exit the current page.Option 2: Make the breadcrumb menu more discoverable to the user.

Following each interview, we identified new issues or themes and iterated on our script.

Our target users were instructors using Camtasia to produce educational videos, ranging from novice to expert users. We conducted 9 interviews, narrowing in on 4 users who were both teaching and doing the video production on their own. For these 4 users, we transcribed their interviews using Otter.ai, then coded the interviews in Taguette. The tagged data was imported to Miro for Affinity Mapping and Journey Mapping

The maps here show a visual representation of our gathered data, the participants we interviewed shared their video creation

Example Challenge 1: User prefer to create animation outside Camtasia
Instructors learning to use Camtasia are likely familiar with ubiquitous software like Powerpoint. While animation on a video is not the same as animation on a slideshow with triggers, we found that users with think of animation in the same way and want similar functionality between the two products. The images to the right show a similar bouncing ball animation created in Powerpoint above, and Camtasia below.
Example Challenges 2: Recycling content
We found instructors used two methods of recycling content. Some instructors need to reflect changes in their field frequently, requiring them to update videos with new or changed information. These users want to reuse previous project files and swap out clips as necessary. The other method happens when instructors need to cover the same content in a new textbook or course structure. These instructors tend to reuse assets such as slide decks, but will remake the entire video without reusing recorded content.Credits
